I am a former Certified Surgical Technologist and have been a guardian to quite a few Siberian Huskies since 1986. I currently reside with my husband and a few rescued Siberians in Drums, Pa.
I have always had a passion for helping dogs and all of my canine family members have been adopted through shelters or rescued as strays.
One of my Siberians was the inspiration for my decision to become a Certified Canine Massage Therapist. She had cancer that was recurring in one of her rear paws that grew back more aggressively every time it was surgically removed. We finally had to make a decision on how to help her but the only treatment was to have her leg amputated so she could have a better quality of life. She was a very outgoing and sociable girl and she always adapted to her circumstances. Her surgery occured when
she was approx. 14 years old and she did very well. She learned how to navigate on 3 legs, including going down steps. But she was overcompensating with her other muscles. I did massage on her without much knowledge in strokes or techniques. After her passing, I researched for massage schools and found Equissage which is located in Virginia. I became a graduate, earned my certification from Equissage in 2005 and opened my practice in 2006. I also became a member of the International Association of Animal Massage Therapists.
I have recently studied Reiki I and am a Reiki Practitioner. Reiki (pronounced Ray-kee) is Japanese for Universal Life Force or Spiritually-Guided Energy. Hands-on healing.
This practice is a special tribute to my Siberian Husky, Sasha. Her spirit gives me the encouragement to help other dogs with this therapy.
